The Sequential Prophet X is a potent fusion of samples-plus-synthesis and is Sequential’s most ground-breaking evolution of the Prophet yet. At its heart, it’s a bi-timbral, 8-voice-stereo, 16-voice mono/stereo, 32-voice paraphonic synth with a newly developed sound engine that powers two simultaneous 16-bit, 48kHz sample-based instruments plus two high-resolution digital oscillators — all processed through analog filters. With 150 GB of internal samples from acclaimed sound developers 8Dio, and all of the powerful synthesis tools you’ve come to expect from Sequential, the Prophet X has a musical voice uniquely its own.
On the sample side of things, in 8- and 16-voice mode, the Prophet X provides two independent, stereo, digitally sampled instruments per voice (4 in Stack or Split mode). The 150 GB of internal sample content was created by 8Dio, known for pioneering “deep sampling.” You’ll find a diverse collection of acoustic and electronic instruments as well as plenty of edgy ambient and cinematic effects. You can shape the samples through loop manipulation, sample stretching, and the Prophet X’s sound-sculpting modulation functions. Each sample instrument has its own Tone control for high-pass or low-pass filtering. 50 GB of additional internal storage is dedicated to importing user samples and 3rd party sample libraries.
On the synth side, the Prophet X gives you the power of a classic Prophet, with two high-resolution digital oscillators that feature both classic waveshapes and a supersaw for more timbral possibilities. Using the Shape Mod control, you can manually dial in a desired waveshape width for any of the classic sine, sawtooth, or pulse waves, or use an LFO or other mod source for continuously shifting timbre. You can shape the raw sounds with all of the classic synthesis functions you’d expect, including 4 syncable LFOs with slew and phase offset, 4 loopable five-stage envelope generators, and a 16-slot mod matrix with dozens of modulation sources and destinations.
At the heart of the Prophet X´s powerful sound are its new, 24 dB-per-octave resonant low-pass filters, which are based on a vintage design. In 8-voice mode, there are separate filters in the left and right channels for a true stereo signal path. These add exceptional presence and fullness to both the samples and the oscillators. For additional polyphony, you can switch the Prophet X from 8-voice stereo mode to 16-voice mono/stereo mode, which is useful for stacks and splits, or 32-voice paraphonic performance mode when using a single sampled instrument and oscillator.
The pedal input allows you to connect an external pedal that expands the instrument's control capabilities and contributes to a richer musical expression, increasing flexibility and expressiveness when playing and creating music.
This dual-oscillator synthesizer offers a wide range of sonic possibilities that combine harmonic and non-harmonic tones. Users can adjust the frequency and amplitude of each oscillator separately, allowing harmonious layering of sounds, creating unison effects or captivating modulations.
The ADSR (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release) type envelope filter gives you precise control over the dynamics and shape of your sound. The ADSR components are detailed as follows: Attack: Specifies how quickly the sound reaches its maximum volume upon activation. Decay: Specifies the time it takes for the volume to drop from maximum to sustain. Sustain: Represents a stable volume level that is maintained as long as the sound is active. Release: Specifies how quickly the volume fades to zero after the sound has been released.
An LFO, or low frequency oscillator, brings electronic sound to life. It adds movement and interest to synthetic sounds and effects, playing an important role in both subtle synthesis and bold sound design. However, you won't hear the LFO itself because it acts as a modulator. This means that it does not directly affect the audio signal, but adjusts other parameters such as oscillator pitch and filter clipping.
The headphone output allows direct connection of headphones for private listening. This output provides a convenient way to enjoy the sound without disturbing others or ambient noise.
It supports MIDI, allowing you to connect and communicate with other MIDI-compatible devices. This feature extends control and integration into the larger music environment, increasing flexibility and creativity in music creation.
This instrument has 61 keys, equivalent to 5 octaves, providing a wide range of tones for a variety of musical applications.
Aftertouch technology on the keys allows musicians to add a new level of expression to their playing. When a key reaches the bottom of its stroke, the pressure exerted on the key can continue to be sensed and used to control various aspects of the sound, such as vibrato, volume, or tone modulation.
The Arpeggiator transforms chords into sequences of individual notes played in various rhythmic and melodic patterns. Instead of playing the chords as a harmonic whole, the Arpeggiator breaks the chords into individual notes and plays them sequentially according to the selected algorithm.
Modulation allows you to change different aspects of the sound in real time, opening up a wide range of creative possibilities. For example, it can affect the pitch of the sound, creating a vibrato effect, or it can change the amplitude of the signal, creating a tremolo effect. It can also adjust filtering to create smooth transitions between frequency bands and dynamic textures. Modulation can also be used to change the character of the sound depending on the time or intensity of playing, giving the sound a lively and moving character.
The Pitch Bend allows smooth pitch changes, adding expressiveness to musical expression. Often used to create effects such as glissando or vibrato, this feature allows the player to make subtle or dramatic changes to the sound in real time. Pitch bend allows musicians to create smooth transitions between notes, increasing the dynamics and expressiveness of their performances.
The sequencer provides musicians with a tool for composing and arranging music, allowing them to create and edit musical sequences. This feature allows you to record and play back repeating patterns. This makes it easy to create complex rhythms and melodies. The sequencer also allows you to layer different musical elements on top of each other, sync with other devices, and adjust parameters in real time. This flexibility makes the sequencer an invaluable tool for producing music, experimenting with new sounds and creating original compositions.
