The acclaimed CN301 keyboard with Responsive Hammer III mechanism reproduces the perfect touch of an acoustic piano, while its realistic movement and rigid springless construction provide a smooth and natural piano playing experience. The instrument's three-sensor key detection system increases sensitivity and accuracy, while structural bracing throughout the machine assembly helps minimize key noise and vibration during staccato and fortissimo passages.

The weight of the keyboard is appropriately graded to reflect the heavier bass hammers and lighter treble hammers of an acoustic piano, while the release simulation reproduces the subtle "notch" feel you feel when gently playing the piano keys. These important features allow discerning pianists to confidently practice their expanding repertoire and ensure that there are no unpleasant surprises when performing on the best acoustic pianos.

In addition to graduated weight hammers, the Responsive Hammer III keyboard is also equipped with counterweights built into each black and white key.
Similar to an acoustic piano, these finely balanced weights help to lighten the touch of the keyboard during pianissimo passages while adding a sense of greater substance during intense playing.

The Responsive Hammer III keyboard uses a precise three-sensor key detection system to achieve greater realism when playing.

The added third sensor improves the response when playing the same key repeatedly and, unlike the conventional two-sensor keyboards found in many digital pianos, allows the sound of a single note to be successively "layered" without losing the previous note.
In addition, Kawai's action technology also monitors the lift speed of individual keys, influencing the release character of the piano's sound and providing a greater range of expression between staccato and legato playing.

The impressive CN301 comes standard with Kawai's highly prized Ivory Touch keys. This finely textured material gently absorbs sweat and oils from the fingers to aid in game control, and has a natural matte finish that is smooth but not slippery.
In addition, this moisture is absorbed without dirt or grease penetrating the surface, which makes it easy to wipe the keys with just a damp cloth.

As the most authentic digital piano keyboard in its class, the Responsive Hammer III reproduces even the characteristic "let-off" of acoustic pianos.
This subtle feeling of "notches" can be felt when playing very gently on the piano keys, and experienced pianists can use it to promote control when playing pianissimo passages.

The new CN301 captures the exquisite tone of two of Shigeru Kawai's top instruments: the flagship SK-EX Concert and the mid-sized SK-5 Studio piano, allowing musicians to enjoy the contrasting qualities of each.
In addition, the CN301 also features the signature sound of the highly acclaimed Kawai EX concert grand, often chosen by professional pianists at such prestigious events as the Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Rubinstein International Piano Competitions, among others.
All three instruments are faithfully reproduced with full 88-key sampling using patented Progressive Harmonic Imaging™ sound technology to create a new standard in digital piano tonal quality.

When playing a fine piano, the force of pressure on the keyboard affects not only the volume of the sound produced, but also the unique tonal character of each note. Therefore, in order to create a realistic acoustic portrait of each piano, not only each key is recorded separately, but also a wide range of different volumes, from gentle pianissimo to thunderous fortissimo.

The CN301 offers a highly detailed acoustic portrait, utilizing Kawai's proprietary Progressive Harmonic Imaging sampling technology, which ensures smooth tonal transitions across the keyboard and throughout the dynamic range.

The CN301's powerful digital effects engine enhances the instrument's excellent fundamental sounds, adding additional layers of detail and realism that bring performances to life.
Studio-quality reverb allows pianists to place themselves in one of six acoustic environments, from a small practice room to an inspiring cathedral.

Developed by Kawai R&D's experienced team of audio engineers, the CN301 features a redesigned speaker system and an all-new high-quality power adapter. Together, these components deliver best-in-class sound quality, producing exceptionally rich, clear sound with minimal distortion.

In addition to using high-quality speaker units, the CN301 top speakers are also equipped with specially designed diffusion panels that help extend the piano's tonal projection in all directions.
These additional components create a 360° sound field around the instrument, ensuring a natural piano sound for both the player and listeners in other parts of the room.

Bluetooth wireless connectivity, USB audio recording/playback, Dual, Split and Four Hands keyboard modes and a rich assortment of instrumental voices add to the variety of players' performances, while a handy metronome function and integrated lessons ensure that regular practice is productive and engaging for beginning pianists.

Finish

Finish: Satin

The satin finish is popular for its ability to combine the properties of both a glossy and matte finish. This type of finish provides a soft sheen, less intense than gloss but more pronounced than matte. This creates a smooth to touch, lightly reflective surface which gives an elegant and sophisticated appearance. The satin finish is ideal for those looking for a balance between visual appeal and convenience, as it can hide small imperfections and fingerprints better than glossy surfaces.

First time I ever touched a digital piano, in the past I had good upright pianos and a Yamaha C3 grand piano. So the Kawai CN301 is overall a great piano considering its price and the value it offers, I cannot complain there. I put 4-stars because I had expected the keyboard to be heavier as in touch, so it's still a good keyboard for playing casually, but as for serious study of music(conservatory level) I don't recommend it, maybe the Kawai CA series are suitable (although I never tried them). The sound quality is excellent on the SK-EX samples, that's the reason I bought the new model because of the update with this sample and it's the best one for a mid-ranged digital piano. I don't like at all the other sound samples as for playing classical music, they all sound unnatural and it's like there is a big "switch" between low keys and upper keys and I found them imbalanced and it was easy to recognize the sound as a digital piano, but the SK-EX sample is really a good one! The sound max volume is a bit lower than my expectations, but it's fine. The assembly didn't involve much work, but there was no paper dedicated to it. I later found it on the rear end of the user manual, it should had been on the first pages, or better a separate instruction sheet just for assembly! For the rest I'm happy, but only the test of time will say if it's a good piano.
